As the story progresses, players face off against a variety of enemies in the forest, such as mutant wildlife, bandits and cultists, as they uncover the mystery of The Eater and the truth behind the mysterious darkness that lurks in the shadows.
The player eventually discovers the truth behind The Eater, that it is in fact an artificial intelligence created by a secret society called The Guardians. The Guardians had attempted to use the AI to protect the forest from a powerful ancient evil, however their plans went awry and The Eater became corrupted, turning it against humanity.
The player must battle The Eater and its minions in order to protect the forest and save humanity. The player eventually succeeds in defeating The Eater and restoring peace to the forest.
