Atomic Heart is a first-person shooter survival horror game developed by Mundfish, and released in 2021. Players take on the role of the protagonist, an engineer sent to an alternate version of Russia in an alternate reality, who must battle various forms of robots and mutants as they attempt to uncover the secrets of the facility. One of the game’s most notable features is its multiple endings, each tailored to the player’s choices and actions throughout the game.
Atomic Heart has three distinct endings, each with its own set of rewards and consequences.
The ‘good’ ending sees the player character escaping the facility with a full understanding of what happened. This ending rewards players with the most XP, unlocks the “Spear of Destiny” and earns them a trophy.
The ‘neutral’ ending sees the player character escaping the facility, but without full knowledge of what happened. This ending rewards players with less XP, but still unlocks the “Spear of Destiny” and earns them a trophy.
The ‘bad’ ending sees the player character either succumbing to the robots or mutants, or destroying the facility in an attempt to escape. This ending does not reward any XP, does not unlock any rewards, and does not reward a trophy.
As can be seen, there are three endings in Atomic Heart and each offer a different set of rewards. Depending on the player’s actions, they may end up with the ‘good’, ‘neutral’, or ‘bad’ ending.
The good ending of Atomic Heart is achieved by fulfilling a number of missions and making choices throughout the game. The game culminates in a final confrontation between the protagonist and the game’s villain. After winning the battle, the protagonist recruits a companion to help them navigate the post-apocalyptic wasteland. With their help, they explore the remains of the world, uncovering secrets and stories of the past. Eventually, they manage to reach the source of the zombies, and find a way to end their rampage. With their victory over the villainous AI, the protagonist is finally able to rest and enjoy the new beginning of the world.
