Charles Rookwood was born in London in 1834 to an eminent wizarding family. His ancestors included the great Merlin, and his family was a prominent figure in the ministry. From a young age, Charles was a precocious student, quickly showing an aptitude for magic and learning. He was enrolled in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1847, at the age of thirteen, becoming one of the school’s first students.
Charles Rookwood quickly gained a reputation as one of the school’s most talented pupils and was appointed Prefect and later Head Boy. He excelled in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Charms, and even attained an Outstanding in his Herbology O.W.L. He quickly developed a reputation as a respected professor within the walls of Hogwarts, and eventually became Headmaster in 1876. During his tenure as Headmaster, Rookwood changed the way classes were taught and emphasised the importance of practical work and research. He also adapted Hogwarts to the rapidly changing landscape of magic in the modern world.
Charles Rookwood’s legacy lives on in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is credited, along with the other founders, for transforming the school into a beacon of magical education and excellence, and many of the magical laws and ordinances that define the modern wizarding world can trace their roots back to Rookwood’s tenure.
