The Sons of the Forest Achievement is a recognition given by the Boy Scouts of America to those who have lived in the forest and actively participated in exhibiting the skills, knowledge and attitudes essential to the success of the organization.

The Sons of the Forest award is an excellent way to show your dedication and commitment to the Boy Scouts of America and the outdoors. It is important to understand the requirements and guidelines of the award prior to beginning the journey in achieving this prestigious award.

Requirements to Receive the Achievement

  • Must be at least 11 years old.
  • Must have completed Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements.
  • Must have completed at least one week of camping with a minimum of two adult leaders
  • Must have completed 10 hours of conservation-related activity.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of how to survive in the forest.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Must have a physical examination.

Activities Accomplished During The Course

  • Practicing camping, hiking and outdoor cooking.
  • Undertaking Stewardship activities, including building and/or imposing trails, as well as other volunteer projects.
  • Identifying animal life in the forest and understanding the interrelationships of species.
  • Learning the forces of nature and their effects on the outdoors.
  • Broadening the knowledge of safety and first-aid.
  • Learning about interpretation and Leave No Trace principles.

The Sons of the Forest Achievement will offer a well rounded education of the outdoors, as well as a culmination of the knowledge acquired through the Boy Scouts of America. By receiving the Sons of the Forest Achievement, you are showing that you are dedicated to the organization and are a great representative of the outdoor activities and knowledge!
